Service Description
Quinag (Milk Pail) This stunning mini mountain range encompasses a number of impressive peaks each with their own distinctive character. The three main summits are all classified as "Corbetts", Scottish mountains between 2500 and 3000 feet in height. The northern summits of Sàil Ghorm (Blue Heal) and Sàil Gharbh (Rough Heal) are clearly visible when heading south over the Kylesku Bridge, with their impressive buttresses dominating the view ahead. Spidean Coinich (Mossy Peak) is a more limpet shaped and abruptly rocky summit that sits to the very south of Quinag. The Route We will meet up at the Quinag car park situated on the eastern side of the A894 about 4km north of Ardvreck Castle and 8km south of Kylesku Bridge. If approaching from the south, the car park entrance only becomes visible at the last minute so start signalling right at the start of the black and white crash barriers on the LHS of the bend. Setting out a few hours before sunset we will make our way along the main path leading into Quinag's eastern corrie. This excellent path has recently been upgraded by the John Muir Trust whom own and manage the land where Quinag is situated. After approximately 3.5km of gradual climbing we reach Bealach a' Chornhaidh where the path splits. Here, we will follow the slightly less distinct path that leads upwards until the Sail Gharb summit is reached. At 809m above sea level, this is the highest point on Quinag offering stunning views in every direction. However, we won't hang about here for too long, instead choosing to relocate approximately 1km at the western end of the ridge. Here we will pause for some light refreshment, whilst being treated to one of Assynt's finest views, looking south and west as the sun goes down. Before we lose the light completely we will descend back down retracing our steps to the car park. This event will be subject to change dependent upon the weather forecast and the number of bookings. Please check our social media the day before for confirmation.
